Where these tools stop
Running locally is a real constraint as well as a feature. Worth knowing before you drop a 6 GB file in.
- Browser
- The video and audio tools need WebCodecs: Chrome, Edge, Opera, or recent desktop Firefox; Safari works for some operations and fails at others. The image tools run in any current browser.
- File size
- Everything is held in the tab, so memory is the ceiling. A few hundred megabytes of video is comfortable; multi-gigabyte 4K will usually exhaust the heap. Images above 40 megapixels are scaled down as they are decoded.
- Speed
- Your hardware sets the pace. Video re-encoding runs at roughly real time on a modern laptop, faster with hardware acceleration; a stream copy takes seconds. AVIF is the slow image format.
- Output
- Compress, trim and logo removal export H.264 MP4 where the browser can encode it, WebM otherwise, re-encoding audio at 96 kbps when it has to. Convert to MP4 and Extract audio copy streams untouched whenever the codecs allow, and say when they could not.
