Drywall Installation Guide

Standard drywall sheets are 4 feet wide and come in 8, 9, 10, or 12-foot lengths. Use 1/2 inch thickness for walls and 5/8 inch for ceilings or fire-rated applications. Longer sheets reduce the number of seams but are harder to handle.

Plan to use about 1 pound of screws per 8 sheets, 1 roll of tape per 4 sheets, and 1 bucket of joint compound per 8 sheets. These ratios account for taping all seams and applying 3 coats of mud for a smooth finish.
